REALLY stuck cylinders
 

Ok - I've taken apart many a 911 engine in my time, but today I hit a wall (and my thumb with a slipped wrench, but thats another story). The cylinders just don't want to come out. They are nikasil cylinders in a magnesium block. The crank rotates fine and the pistons move, but there is NO unseating cylinder-wise. This is afterrotating crank, pulling, gentle tapping with a rubber mallet, pulling, etc

Any helpful ideas floating out there? The sooner I can get this engine torn down completely, the sooner the heads go off to Henry for a rebuild.

I use a large rubber mallet, but not gently.

more pwr scotty !!!....maybe piston at bdc blocks of wood both sides ,pry bar both sides a buddy to rotate eng to tdc as you pry,- all in unison.....at least might get cyl off the case for more inspection, Truly should not be too difficult

I'm starting to think that the cold temp had something o do with it. Even though it was warm for winter, the garage was -3c. It's supposed to be warmer tomorrow, so I'll try the big rubber mallet & wood blocks then.

some are stubborn...just need more discipline.

you could play some heat round the spiggot holes as you tap the barrels with a rubber mallet. don't worry about the case-it will pull the heat away real quick so something like mapp gas will be good.

big rubber (not plastic) hammer. two bips down, two bips up, toward the bottom where the fins are short to avoid breakage. repeat as needed. pull outward as you hit it. then rebore the spigots so they go back in nicely. typical 2.7.
