USed P&C value
I'm probably about to pull the trigger on new P&Cs to bump the 3.0 to a 3.2. My question is how much are my old pistons and cylinders worth:
The pistons are Mahle and are in spec with the exception of the top ring lands being a tad too big. It is correctable by shimming the ring or machining the groove for the next size ring. The cylinders are Mahle (Nikasil) and are in spec according to my machinist's measurements (I don't have the tools to check). Cross hatchings are still visible. Can I recover some funds for these on Ebay you think? Thanks, Brian |
I get about 100.00 a hole, complete wtih pins. I also typically pay that as well. Some will get what they can, but that is fair.

If the top ring land is worn, then IMO the pistons are not useable. I wouldn't take a chance machining pistons, or whatever to save a few bucks.
I think the cylinders are worth somewhere between $300 and $500 if in spec. FYI, I purchased a set on ebay a couple of months back that needed honing but otherwise in spec. for $300. Honing job set me back $120. I will be using these with a set of JEs. Just my 2 cents worth! Michel |
Thanks for the input guys. I put an order in for 98mm P&Cs, so I will be selling these. Just trying to see what they are worth based on their condition.
|
you basically have cylinders that are good and junk pistons, so price them accordingly.
|
Gotcha.
|
For what it is worth in helping you determine value, I have sold a couple of sets of 95mm Nykasil carrera cylinders for 300 a set. I have seen them go for up to 400 however on Evil bay.
Cheers |
Thanks - I'll probably list them there once I have the new ones in.
|
I would say $50 each for nikasil cylinders. If you can measure them out Nikasil could bring $75-100 each. I have seen this on ebay but personally wouldn't pay that much.
I sold a partial set that measured well in-spec for $50 each. (nikasil cylinders only) |
I just sell them to EBS, nice and painless!
Cheers |
How much does EBS offer?
|
I am guessing $300 to $350. I'll bet you can probably exchange them for parts you will need for your rebuild and be even further ahead ;-)
Call them to find out. Michel |
It depends probably on how bad they need them. I see them buying them on EBAY too, but I just take credit against future purchases....
Cheers |
