Dropped a nut in the hole for the starter
While I was mating up the engine and transmission I accidently dropped a nut in the hole for the starter. Do I have to seperate the engine and transmission again or can I just leave it there?

Don't leave it in there because the clutch and pressure plate are in there. But I bet you can fish it out with a magnet tool, you know the kind that telescopes. If you hit a bump, the nut could bounce up into the spinning clutch assembly.

You might be able to separate the two slightly and get it to fall out if the magnet does not work. Don't leave it!!

Case is Al, only the nut will stick to a magnet. You could attach magnet from a cabinet door to a wire hanger and fish for it via the starter hole. Nothing else in there. Lou

Once the nut manages to ricochet inside the housing, it'll create unspecified damage and minimally, cosmetic dents.
Purchase a powerful magnet (neodymium), it will attract the steel fastener through the aluminum wall. Touch the magnet to the bottom of the clutch/flywheel housing, then slide the magnet/nut assy. upwards toward the most accessible opening (starter access hole). To coin a phrase from the Tappet brothers, "If this works, write your name on a $20 bill and send it to the following address." :-) Sherwood |

Just take the transmission off and be done with it.

I had a hard time mating the tranny and the engine and hate to have to take them apart and put them together again. When mating the two you have to line up all four studs while keeping the tranny at exactly the right angle while pushing the tranny toward the engine and if I pushed too hard the engine would start to roll away on the jack.

Oh, is the engine and tranny out of the car? Then it's easy. Just remove the tranny. When you want to put it back on, put the engine up against a wall so it won't roll back. Then just squat and hug the tranny and stick it on there. Or have a friend help you.
