I must be missing something, since my '90 964 Pulley bolt is 14mmx1.5

Yes, the pulley bolt is an M14 (and threads into the CRANKSHAFT), BUT the pulley remover threads into the PULLEY, not the crankshaft.
The remover tool threads into a larger set of threads in the pulley, and the smooth end of the tool pushes against the crankshaft (it's less than 14mm so won't thread into the crankshaft). Does this make sense? -Eric |

If your rebuild is being held up by the missing "tool" you are more than welcome to use mine. I will be in Berlin (2 miles off rte. 290) for the next week or I can just mail it to you. |
Thanks, but luckily the pulley just needed a tap with the rubber hammer after the tool failed......

Well I bought the tool from Baum Tool (pricey but seems high quality). I had to _really_ crank on this to get the pulley off, using a locked flywheel and a large 1/2 socket wrench. It resisted and then "pop", the pulley dropped off.
As for the size of the threaded part of the tool, I have enclosed some pics of the tool next to a 16mm bolt. It's M16, 1.5 (fine) pitch....... the bolt is an M16 2.0 pitch.

If someone wouldnt mind sending me some raw bolts, I would be more than happy to machine several to the before posted print.

Actually I have not sent the second set of bolts yet. There seemed to be some confusion about the excact dimensions. Let me know who needs them and will machine the tool and excactly what it is we need here and I will get them sent off.

I think Eric has it right, the bolt (and tool) is an M16x1.5x55mm

I know this is a old post.. But cant you just use a small socket,, Put in hole against crank between pulley and turn...

I think that's pretty much what I did - you just have to make sure that you've got the lengths/height right so the M16 x 1.5mm bolt isn't bottoming out.
I had a small section of corrosion on the crankshaft mating face of my old pulley that made removing it a real pain but by using a piece of bar or a socket the correct length and the M16 bolt it gave a good popping noise & off it popped. The torque rating for the bolt on the puller hub is 235Nm / 174 ft/lb so maybe not surprising it takes a bit of removing!! Bolt is a use once item as I remember. |
Well I should have searched this before I pulled off my pulley.
I removed the small bolts, two stripped on me. I can't seem to find the part numbers. Also since i pulled off the balancer separate from my pulley, how do I know what the alignment should have been? I.e. how do I get it re-balanced? Send it to a machine shop after I bolt them back together? I also can't seem to find the part number for the replacement small hex bolt that stripped. thx, Mike #rookie. |
