Fastening hardware
Are the nuts and bolts holding the sway bar special?
Can I run down to Home Depot and pick up a set of nuts and bolts? |

I wouldn't expect HD to have what you need unless you can get a grade 5 or 8 English size that fits very nice...It would be better to use proper high grade metric hardware...you will likely need to find the specialty hardware supplier in your area. Around here we/I use Olander in I think it is Santa Clara or Sunnyvale CA

MHO, Home Depot and hardware store bolts should be fine for this application. Remember, it's metric. Grade 8.8 is fine.

grade 8.8 in metric may well be fine...I have to go review the English grade 5,8/etc. compared to the metric grades. The thing that struck me was how tight these were when I loosened them to drop the sway bar. I think they need to be tight to avoid the steel inset slipping that is connected to the rubber in the joint...
So I thought that a low strength bolt may not get tight enough before it started to yield.. In the OSH store here where I get most common hardware they have limited grades of metric...like only one grade....I don't think it is 8.8 or higher but I could be mistaken. In any case it is not a high risk type of situation. |
