sound driving me nuts, any ideas?

Hey guys,

Got a 78 3.0 that makes a strange chirpping/sqeaking sound when warmed up. On idle, it is fine but after about 8-10 mins of driving, a sound starts to develop. From what I have read, I'm beginning to think it is an exhaust leak. The engine runs strong and can't feel any difference in performance. The car has been setting most of the winter due to this problem. Haven't had time to play around with it but with summer practially here, I wanted to get this running.

The car initially started making the noise after it warmed up when it was idleing but it no longer does it after I started driving it around for the past couple of days. Only after I press the accelerator does it make this sqeaking noise. and at higher rpms, I can't seem to hear it. Maybe just due to the noise from the engine.

I've read about a few different things but this is my case in particular. I would like to get your opinions on the matter and where I need to center my attention.

Thanks in advance.

check belt tension, also try spraying it with belt dressing, may be source of sqeal, good luck

Check your head studs, I sounds like you have one or more that are coming loose, or a broken stud. Pull the valve covers and insert a allen socket into the head stud nut and see if there tight? check both sides top and bottom. let me know what you find!

After playing around with it today, I am thinking that is what it may be. Tried belt dressing but that wasn't it. The noise seems to be coming from the right side of the engine.

Check some simple things first, like the alt. bearings. I've heard them make all kinds of wierd noises as they go south on other cars, and at different times (ie startup, etc.).
