Piston to cylinder clearance

When making the measurement is it:

BORE - PISTON / 2 = Clearance
or
BORE-PISTON = Clearance

In other words is the clearance measurement both sides of the piston or one side?

The clearance would be the (bore - piston size) / 2, ie cylinder bore to piston (all round).

I don't think this is correct, is it? I thought the clearance was the total clearance for the piston on one side with the other at zero clearance, not the "all round" clearance.

Chris has it right, from what I understand. I posed this question not all that long ago on the board as well. It is cyliner bore - (minus) piston OD.

Cheers

The right answer 2 years later ... I ended up getting new P&C's anyway.

I just wanted someone searching (like _I_ was) to find the right answer.
