What should I do? Pitted cam lobe

Dropped the engine on my ’80 SC with 133K to fix some oil leaks and found one lobe is pitted. So do I keep digging, that is after I get the cam out and just do the rebuild or stop there. That is provided I do not find anything else; it did run funny when it was hot, after about 40 minutes on the highway. That is when the oil really started to come out, sort of a bumbling sound with loss of power. I actually think the front thermostat did not open and the temp gauge is not accurate.

I was originally planning on staying stock but there is a slight compulsion to do something… Good thing there is no room for a GMC 671 on this car.
Thanks for any advice,

Jeff

I know one thing.... If you do put a GM 6-71 in it, I want to see pictures!!

Probably sound pretty cool.

Jeff, contact "camgrinder" on this forum. or www.drcamshafts.com He will give you good advice. I have used him many times and can highly recommend him.

Cheers

I second that opinion.
John can fix you right up.
You might even want a sight perfromance upgrade and Jonh's advise is invaluable.

After asking the same question, I got the same advise. I called John, and my cams were in the air the next day. My cams are now on their way home, and I can't wait.

I found the same thing in my 78SC, was it by chance pne of the lobes for cylinder #6? John tells me SC's are real prone to have this. I had him redo mine to 964 profile.
That and SSI's will get you somewhere between 20-35 HP . I am in reassembly stage, course I slid down the "slippery slope and had Henry do the heads, got a new SS muffler from MB911, fixing all the oil leaks etc
