ID 930 box...
Hello Fellas!
This isn't exactly an engine rebuild question.. More like gearbox. :) How do you ID the year of a 930 box? How to tell if it's '76-'77 or '78-on? Thanks. Sprint. |
The bell housing on the 76-77 turbo is 3/4 inch short than the 78 and later.
Measure from the starter mounting surface to the bell housing mounting surface and if it is 4 inches it's a 76-77. If it is almost 5 inches it's the later box. 76-77 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1144078348.jpg 78 AND LATER http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1144078449.jpg |

I did measure and it's 3 5/8" or so? Not even 4". Anyway, it looks more like the 2nd pic rather than the first. It has this cutout at the edge of the top of the bellhousing nearest the flywheel. So, do I have a 78-on? Thanks. Sprint. |
If it is under 4" it's definately a short housing.
If it's a turbo it's 76-77. Are you certain it is not a 915 ? Post a picture. |

Definitely not a 915. I found some numbers but these are casting numbers? Is 10 75 to mean production date October 1975 making it from a '76 car? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1144430773.jpg There's a view of it... How come your pic of an early one does not have the cutout at the top of the bellhousing? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1144430892.jpg And here's with a ruler... From the bellhousing to starter mount, it's less than 4"! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1144430968.jpg Thanks for helping out Henry! Have a nice weekend ahead! Sprint. |
Am I missing something or is that ruler just a little strange?:)
