Just got my new custom made aluminum intake for my soon to be EFI conversion. First i have to put the motor back together, but for now i have something to stare at for awhile.

OK, I'll bite. What does this plenum design bring to the party? Who did the machine work? I love science projects!

Nice job. Did you do it yourself?

Is it all screwed together?

Cheers,

It's a custom job from a friend machinist in mexico. I actually used a picture from the thread about mb911 making an SC box and showed it to him. He said give me your old box and i'll replicate it in aluminum similar to this. So i did, and this is what he gave me back. I think those are a bunch of screws yes, the bottom plate was bent into the curve shaped profile you see, then the rest was screwed together and sealed using some loctite product (518 i think). Just before he gave it to me, he pressure tested it as well to check for leaks. The aluminum he used is really thick, for alumium this thing is heavy. Anyhow, i thought i'd share.

Maybe that is silver from Tasco. Nice bling. What are you going to do to your heads/case (at ythe machine shop)?

Good luck.

Regards,

That unfortunately is the slow part. I'm doing that as i get money, which i don't have much of. Right now my case and cam towers are at a local shop soaking in solvent and being cleaned up.
I have no idea when i'll finish because my income is inconsistent. Right now the only way i get money is by occassionally doing computer repair. I'm trying to get an internship over the summer as a mechanical engineer and have not had any calls for a set in stone job yet. But i'll tell you one thing, after this experience of putting it together some time ago and having the oil get contaminated with plastic bits (broken chain guides), this time around the oil system will be so clean that it will be cleaner than the water i drink, :D
BTW, this is probably a long shot, but if anyone works for a company looking for an intern over the summer, and are relatively close to las cruces, nm, please let me know. I'm an ME student at nmsu, i'm between a sophmore and junior (i presently take classes from both) and my gpa is a 3.4.

This looks like a very nice piece of fabrication. My question is " Why did you build this box when an nice aluminum replacement is available through the after market ?"

1fastredsc 04-09-2006 08:08 AM

Because the machinist owed me a favor, and it only cost me 100 bucks to make this one.

Hi Henry,

Since I keep up with CIS info, do you have a reference of where the Aluminum air boxes are available?

Thanks,
