79 911SC ignition coil check

Is there any way to test the coil and cd box on the 1979 911SC ignition system?
I am trying to figure out if the coil is bad as my car suddenly will not start.

Second question......will Nology coils work with the OEM CD unit and not burn it out? Bosch no longer makes a coil for the car so I need an alternative.

Thanks guys.

Fred, search here for "Bosch CDI Troubleshooting" and under the name "early_s_man" for a wealth of information about this situation.

The Bosch coils are widely available used. I would use a Bosch Blue coil if I couldn't find anything else, but only the original part number will give you the optimal performance.

Does the CDI box whine when you turn the ignition on? You should hear a very high-frequency sound which is the capacitor charging.
