Source for good rebuilt tranny?

I think the tranny on my 1981 911SC is getting tired and needs new syncro rings and maybe new bearings and/or gears. I was thinking about whether to rebuild it myself, have my local Porsche mechanic rebuild it, have it done at the local Porsche dealer (Holbert's or Don Rosen Porsche), or removing it myself and putting in a rebuilt tranny from some part vendor (I think I have seen them advertised for about $1500). Does anyone know of a trustworthy source for rebuilt trannys?

GAS motorsports in cali. I believe Kevin does good work. He just did mine. Expect shipping to be @$130.00 each way though

european auto repair here in miami, Luis does good work very reputable and has tansmissions shipped from all over to repair all the time. a 915 runs about1500 and he does a full rebuild. not just the worst worn parts like a lot of the places. 305-256-4031
