3.2 Motronic Cam Timing Question
 

I have finally gotten to the point to begin timing my 3.2 Motronic.

I am using 964 grinds from John Doughtery.

I have my metric dial indicator setup, and am able to stop at exactly 1.26mm. My issue is when I pull the pin and rotate the crank back to TDC, the cam shaft moves.

How do I imobilize the cam shaft? The motronic cams are round. I'm not sure how I can stop them from rotating.

Cam holder tool.

I hate when that happens. Install rockers on more than #1 and #4. The additional rockers will hold the cam in place when the pin is pulled.

The cams on the Motronic 3.2 are round on the sprocket end so I am not aware of a tool.

The only solution I can think of is some sort of soft wedge (hard rubber) to be used on a lobe other than the first.

You could back off the rocker adjuster before removing the pin. You'd have to re-set the .004 clearance after but it should work.

I responded to this but guess it didn;t take. I used the cam tool to hold it the sprocket steady. You can also put the bolt (without the washer) in the end of the cam to hold that steady while you forward the flywheel.

I like the bolt in the cam idea. It's simple, which is probably why I never thought of it. Thanks very much.
