Bringing '77 911S 2.7 out of hibernation

We are trying to get a '77 911S 2.7 to run after it was left sitting for 7 years. So far we have drained and replaced fuel & fuel filter, oil and oil filter and put Marvel's Mystery oil in cylinders. Replaced plugs, fuel pump, fuel injectors & O-rings.

We are experiencing the following:
1) After a bit of cranking, engine fires and immediately stalls.
2) Engine starts and runs for several seconds (slowly increasing idle speed), but then stalls. If you attempt to give it any gas it immediately stalls.
3) Engine fires and if you hold the starter for a second beyond initial firing and give it gas, engine runs at high rpm's and then stalls. You can only get this to occur occasionally.

We believe the problem is in the fuel delivery area, but are hoping someone may look at the symptoms and point us in the right direction. Really appreciate any advice.

Given the situation I would recommend you obtain a CIS pressure test rig and check the system pressures and then follow a troubleshooting guide otherwise it is just guessing and with the price of these CIS parts you really don't want to try and fix it by swapping parts. There are several sources of CIS pressure test rig kits and CIS troubleshooting guides including Pelican Parts.

That being said you may have a significant air (vacuum) leak which causes the stalling due to a lean condition as soon as the CSV (cold start valve) stops functioning. The CSV is an enrichment injector that functions only when the starter is turning. Is there a "pop-off" valve installed in the air box? Look for rotted and leaking hoses, boots and a cracked airbox.

It could also be the WUR (warm-up regulator) or the fuel distributor; sitting for years is hard on these systems.

Cheers, Jim

Probably too lean. Cold start fuel injector gets you going, but you're too lean thereafter. Check the fuel presuures, otherwise you're just guessing...

There is a pop-off valve installed in the air-box. That seems to be fine and the airbox does not appear to have any crack. The hoses between the airbox and intake manifold don't look so hot. I've ordered new hoses and will get the CIS pressure test rig.

Thanks Jim and PBH for the advice.
