G50 clutch - is ring gear shrunk onto pressure plate?

It sure looks like it. I read in a thread a while back that the ring gear "just taps right off". This is according to John Walker so I have no reason to believe otherwise. We're just about to put a propane torch to this ring gear, but should we just use PB blaster intead?

thanks

By the way - is anyone else out there getting out and enjoying their 911? I brought mine out of storage a few weeks ago, installed a set of elephant polybronze a-arm bushings and now and so far it's been GREAT!

a small hammer will get it loose. don't confuse the starter gear with the dme sensor teeth on the flywheel.

Thanks JW - we're clear on the dme sensor versus the starter gear.

cheers

Done - piece of cake. It just taps right off.

Bad news though - buddy that owns the car bought an aftermarket clutch from Patrick Motor sports. A real nice alluminum KEP stage 1 piece. Well, the inner diameter of the ring gear is to largee for the clutch housing, and the clutch itself is not machined right to fit back onto the flywheel. Without pics it's hard to explain, but basically, the clutch won't fit.

The question is...did the G50 clutches change significantly from the 911 units to the 964 or 993 units? We're hoping Patrick simply shipped the wrong part.

Thanks for the help anyway.

Curious as to how this all does not fit. As a related example of confusion, I am working on fitting a 6 speed to my '89, been trying to find a flywheel/pressure plate/ring gear combo which fits. I have ended up with a Ruf aluminium pressure plate, supposedly for a Turbo flywheel which does not fit an early Turbo (930 102 202 1R) and does not fit a G50 964 Clubsport single mass, nor a Carrera flywheel.....been confusing.

My pressure plate is too large for the ring gear, it is machined to fit into some groove which is not found in the flywheel.....I am somewhat frustrated...also confused.

I am suspicious that the 3.3 Turbo flywheel is different, as Sachs (the pressure plate manufacturer) tells me that it fits a 3.3, and I think my current Turbo flywheel is from a 3.0....

If you have pictures, please post, maybe we can compare notes and pictures and see what matches up....

Dennis

We confirmed today that the clutch which shipped was for a 77 - 86 911 turbo. They plain shipped the wrong clutch *^&^$#! It does sound as though the clutch we got might work in your application though Dennis.

I didn't have my camera when I was there last night, but if I return before the wrong clutch is shipped back, I will take some pictures.
