70.4mm crank in a 66mm case?

Quick question (i think). rebuilding a 2.2T motor and I have a 2.4L crank thats real nice (with rods) are these purely exchangeable or is there mega machine work and or a rod swap that must go on before the show can go on??
Thanks ,
Nabil

You need the appropriate rods, for sure. 2.4-2.7 rods.

Then you need to make sure you have enough piston skirt clearance in the bottom of the case spigots with the pistons at the bottom of the stroke.

Other than that, it's a direct swap.

Thanks Tyson - What starts as a '71 2.2T rebuild now gets and 'E' cam, 2.2E pist/cyls, and a 2.4 crank. I'm gonna run with the Zeniths. Underrated carb in my book. There more sophisticated that Webers in my eyes (and I just so happen to have a pair.) Any other cheap, fun things to do at this stage?

Hey Tyson - know anybode\y thats willing to part with some high comp. pistons in 2.2 size?? With the crank/rods and E cylinders I may as well throw some Spistons in there too.

I think you're fine with the 2.2E pistons. They've got the valve clearance, and the compression ratio will be just right for a street motor. The 2.2S pistons might be too high for pump gas if the machine work you have done brings the CC volume down.

If it were my motor, I would open the ports up to 34mm for the intake, and leave the exhaust ports alone. make sure the manifolds are port-matched to the heads.

Use 32mm or 34mm venturis for Webers, and rejet. (if mostly street, go with the 32's) If you can't find Solex jets in the proper sizes, invest in a jet ream set, and some jet gauges.

I'd also be tempted to have the E-cams reground to mod-Solex grind. Way fun, and the torque curve is great for the street, and still has a really nice top-end that just starts to flatten out at 7000.

I vote for a regrind to mod-Solex, too.

I'm glad you mentioned this (the mod-Solex cams). i've known about these but thought they were the same as E's. I was boxing the goods up tonight to ship out. Ollie's is gonna do the heads and case work. I figured I would have the heads ported and polished there but now I have some sizes that I can mention. No comments on using the Zeniths fellas? I'm sure I'm gonna have to source a Bosch dizzy as the marrelli is still on there.

Send your Es to John (camgrinder); he'll do you up. I don't think Ollie's does cams. As far as the Zentihs go: if they work, they work; if not, you replace them. If you need a new dizzy, you might as well go twin plug and have Ollie's cut the extra plug holes while they have the heads.
