Oil pressure

Hi guys just a quickie to put my mind at rest, what oil pressure should my 1985 3.2 Carrera be running at on tickover when at normal temperature? Thanks

It varies with temperature and the Oil type. I'd say you should see at least 10 PSI at normal temps. Be advised that many oil pressure guages don't read zero with zero oil pressure. You can see this when you turn on the ignition switch with the engine not running.

I've seen the engine have almost no oil pressure (maybe 5 PSI) when idling after a track session and an oil temp of 240 degrees.

It's reading just above 2 on the gauge, its running on 10/40w semi synthetic. It had a rebulid 1000 miles ago and has just had a oil change.

Your guage reads in BARs or atmospheres. This means you have about 30 PSI at idle. That is great and a number I'd expect to see on a cold engine. You really don't need to worry about it much. If you have oil pressure you are fine.

my 3.2 with updated oil restrictors on cam tower oil lines...recent top end rebuild
2 bar at cold idle, 1 bar at hot idle, 20-50 Amsoil
the updated restrictors made a noticable difference on pressure readings at hot and cold idle

WOW, that sounds better then what I had with the restrictors. Fresh rebuild on a 3.2 ss with the restrictors I was getting 4.5 bar cold at idle with Mobil 1 and about 2 to 2.5 at idle when warm. I finally had enough and drilled the 2.5mm openings out to 3.5 mm.. huge difference. I'm sitting at 3 bar for cold idle and 1.5 bar when warmed up.
