Ps&Cs - source for new - reasonable $$$ for 964, 3.6??
Who has the best price to value ratio for new pistons and cylinders for a 964, 3.6 bottom end?
I'm questioning if finding good quality used ones will end up with the results I'm seeking. I just can't fathom buying new ones for more than $3k, though. Should I consider re-honing the factory cylinders and fitting new, oversized pistons like JEs? Are there other reasonably priced options? The engine details are 964 bottom end: crank, pistons, rods, 993 heads, solid lifter cams 993 Super Sport Cam profile, '95 993 engine management and intake. 993 Heat Exchangers and sport exhaust. Thanks much in advance for the advice! Doug |
Doug, send them to EBS to get replated and buy a set of JE pistons, total should be in the 2k area........

I bought a set of used late style 964 P&C for $1000 from Kevin Roush back in 2004. I was a little nervous but the client who bought the rebuilt motor said the motor didn't smoke or use oil from the beginning. Frankly that is hard to believe but if it's true you couldn't ask for more from a used set of P&C.

Thanks and good advice from you both!
What would be the minimum price for new? Thank you, Doug |
Contact Walt at Competition Egineering. I bought a set of used early style P/C's for a very reasonable price. He machined the groove for a head gasket. So far I clocked 16.000 miles on the rebuilt engine and they are perfect. No oil consumption and no head leaks.

Doug, Rennsport Systems also can machine a groove on a early set of cylinders. They machine a step for the 993 gasket to fit and the price is pretty reasonable too! They did a set for me a while ago and I was pleased with the result. Sounds similar to what ingo had done. This may help broden your search for replacements.

Guys,
Thanks for the additional information. I followed up with Walt. In parallel, I found a set that my friend Jeff Hine recommended. One of the guys at Chris's German in the PNW had left-over. They are low-mile, late 964, are in-spec and on their way. Hopefully, this info may help out future seekers. Doug |
The guys at Chris' are good folks. They helped me out of a jam when I was down there way for a track day last year.
