Timing Chain Case Mystery

To all -- I have in my hand a timing chain case that I intended to use as a replacement on a 930 rebuild. However, the part number cast inside the chain case is "911.105.101.0R". My review of all timing chain cases show a part number of either "901.105.061.02" (1964-1969) or "930.105.061.02" (1970-1994) depending upon the year.

Can anyone help me solve this mystery? All I really need to know is will this chain case work?

Thanks,
Duane

Hello, Duane.

Your research has misled you.

930 numbers began with the 930...1974 at the earliest.

As far as I know? IANAL.

Kind regards
David

Subject to the correction to my original posting by davidppp, does anyone have any helpful responses to my question? Thanks again, Duane

I don't have my examples infront of me right now, so no part # verification, but...
I'm pretty sure that that there were 3 main types of chain cases:

1) The early sandcast version made from aluminum and fitted 65-68

2) The updated magnesium version fitted from 68/69 to 77 on normal 911 engines - revised casting and had more mounting studs to case.

3) The 930 part number - looks like #2, but are made from aluminum and fitted to 74-> Turbos and 78-> 911 models.

#2 and 3 are interchangeable, but the 930 versions are a stronger aluminum are are used as an upgrade over the magnesium version.

Andrew M

Hello, Duane.

Right..I have I thnk discovered the source of confusio here..
its the PET which lists only the 930 part numer.

ie the 911 is NLA, and superceded.

Can you confirm that the one you have is mag, not alu?

Kind regards
David
