911 SC engine rebuild tool ?
Do you need the cam bar for a 1980 SC motor rebuild? Under the parts section on pelican it says you need it for an 80, but i've seen places that say you need it for a 81 and up SC.

Very few (Germans, probably) could say accurately whether your car had the 46mm cam nut, or the newer bolt-style. You might have to wait until you have your chain housing covers off to know which tool you will need. In answer to your question, "do you need a cam bar?" the answer is yes for both types!

I actually made mine with a mate.
Crows foot spanner was a modified 46mm socket, we just cut about 1/4-1/3 out of one side it to clear the tensioners. The cam tool was trickier, you need a tight fitting and strong cam holder. Ours was made with 4 small tabs of metal welded onto a solid block with a socket welded to it for the torque wrench. Easy if you have someone who can knock these up for you... |
