Why are my factory installed head studs at 136 to 137 mm tall?

I am replacinng the lower ones, have all of the old exhast side studs out, and after I chased the thread, and test installed a lower, it measured 135 as per the book.

but...

my factory original intake studs whch i planned on leaving alone are all high

what to do?

I've seen the same thing before on a factory built SC motor I took apart. If you can torque the heads down ok without running out of thread, and the studs are in good shape meaning no corrosion just leave them alone. It's not worth the effort to lower them 1mm. Now you're sure to get lots of responses since I offered an opinion.

Interesting, I don't have an answer but I have not seen this before. My studs all seated very well, I used a caliper to confirm case thread depth after cleaning out remaining locktite. All was good and the results just fine. I also soaked every hole with PB blaster and allowed it to soak for a couple of days then used a clean old stud to go in and reclean the threads. I followed it with a high pressure wash.
