930 tranny rebuild tool question
From Pelican's store:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/911M/POR_911M_TRANSM_pg3.htm#item8 Synchro Hub Removal Tool, 930 4-speed transmission, 911 Turbo (1976-88), 1st and 2nd gears This tool helps you to remove the synchro hubs (dog teeth) from the gear sets. Without it, you may need to cut off the synchro hub from the gear. Note: not to be used to remove the neighbor's dog's teeth from your ankle. Has anyone ever used this tool, and how does it work, does it work well, is it worth the money, etc? Or am I better of to just grind them off? Brian |
works on 1st, but not 2nd. there is no tool that worksd on 930 2nd gears. 2nd syncro teeth are about the same size as the gear teeth, so there is no way to support the gear while you press off the syncro teeth. it has an expandable center part that locks into the inner snap ring groove, then it's pressed off from the other side, but you have to support the gear teeth on each side with press plates.
