Hello KT.
I'd forget using the 2L heads if I were you..just use 2.2-2.7l ones. They are much cheaper and better. You will need cams to make serious power..othewrise think similar to a 2.4 carb T..ie 130-140hp. Hardly worth the bother...just buy a 2.4T.. Kind regards David |

Oh..sorry..you want to use S cams..
If you use 2.2S pistons this will be good..but lose the 2L heads...then you can expect about 180-200 hp. Kind regards david |

It'll be fun to RPM. Use good rod bolts and she should run well into the high 7Ks.
But, I agree, the later heads would be better ... especially with a little port work. |

Thanks.
I have access to another core case and 2.0 heads already ( free ) I'm expecting a call tonight for a set of good used 2.2 S p/c's. My machinist want to over bore the cylinders to 85mm and install BIG valves in the heads during the rebuild. Not for serious racing. Just a/x and DE's. BTW, my current 2.0 SIX, which revs to 7300rpms is outstanding. I'm guessing it has S cams, as it make power and starts to really pull around 49-5200 rpms. It's a mystery motor. The builder died many years ago and it sat in his son's garage. Before his death he ran it in a tube chassis desert race car. He took it out and used an 1835cc VW motor instead, because "it was too powerful and they were airborne too much". It sat for an unknown number of years until I picked it up for $1500, complete with triple 40 Webers and a 6-into-1 Supertrapp tee-pee baja exhaust. I got it running in 20 seconds on a test bench without starting fluid. Carb rebuild and valve adjust followed by 15 a/x's and a dozen DE's leaves me wanting more power. Along with my M-S-X 901 gearbox, it's very fun. KT

The only reason to work on 2L heads is to comply with the race rules..
The cost of fitting bigger seats etc is far higher than a set of core 2.2-2.7 heads: Which work better and have the bigger valves already. No contest.. Kind regards david |

Trekkor,
if you overbore the cylinders. I'd be interested in the 2.2S pistons, for a street motor I'm pulling parts together for. brant

The only 2 liter heads really worth using are '69S heads and they are just too expensive for anyone without a special desire for them.

Agreed. The 2.0L heads are inferior in design to the 2.2 and later heads...

I accept that, but the case and heads were *free* and it's just for my own entertainment.
![]() If I move foward with this build, what kind of power should I expect? High compression... KT

"Free" will end up costing more than a better solution. Sometimes you just need to let "free" go or be content with medicore power numbers.

Hmmm.
Now lets see: 2L heads Cut for big seats, supply and fit: 12*25 usd Port heads to match..say 12 *20 Special adaptaors for 2.2L barrels 6 *25 Total 990. So the core 2.2L need to cost more than this to be more costly overall. they usually seem to make about 20-40 each.. Kind regards David They will be a better and much much cheaper solution |

Hello, Brant.
You are likely more correct re this cost.. The new Serdi machine is very fast and accurate doing this..but also very costly! The seat material is also a big variable in the cost.. Kind regards david |
