Separating fan shroud and generator help
I'm having problem separating the fan shroud and the generator.
I have removed all the nuts from the back of the unit. The ones that are on the edge of the bracket. Am I missing a nut or two? 3.2 Carrera |
On my '78 SC 3.0 there were 6 (as I recall) nuts spaced pretty evenly around the perimeter of the shroud, all of them had to come off before the shround will come off. Of course, then you move to the next step: separating the alternator from the fan housing (hint: time for hammer and block of wood!).

Pull harder and wiggle it some. I don't think the bolts usually bind up, it's just a tight fit between the alt. housing and the fan housing.

Just remember there is a ground from the alternator> case.... If thats not it it might be your wires are not loose enough... I had to feed the wires throught the shroud to get enough room to pull the alternator back cover and unbolt the wires.... Be sure your battery in disconected.

hold the housing with both hands, fan side down, and firmly knock the edge of the housing a couple of times on a block of wood or several rags folded flat on the floor. turn it 180° and do the other side. repeat as needed. gravity and inertia will work for you.

It worked!
Thanks to everyone for your help. |
