Engine temps
I was checking some engine temps with an IR gun and found some weird temps:confused:
The 1-2-3 side runs 500F about 2" down from the heads The other side is getting weird.. 6 = 350F 4-5 = 175F What would cause the difference and the really low temps? I pulled the plugs off 4 and 5 and it does change the idel but very very little and close to not at all?? Cheers |
As you've deduced, I would suspect those two cylinders aren't firing.
You need, air, fuel, compression and spark to burn. Can you verify fuel and spark? How about doing a compression test on those cylinders? Doug |
Kerry,
Tell us a little about your engine. |
Opps
I have a 2.2T with webers and Crane ignition. The car seems to run fine:confused: I pulled the #4 plug and it was white'ish in color. It is not fouled and is dry. Not sure how I can check the carbs for flow? I have 3psi at the gauge and the squirt thingy is squirting fuel when the linkage is actuated?? Thanks |
Did a search and read about the cam being installed 180 deg off? Any thoughts on this?
|
I was reading on the bird board that it is very easy to install the cam 180deg out and still have the engine run okay??? The engine runs fine (at least as best I can tell). I don't have another 911 2.2 to compare to but it seems okay to me.
I don't think I did this but will check it this weekend. It's just funny how the two sides are so different in temps? I will also have the wife rev the engine to about 2000rpm while I pull some plug wires. At idle there is very little if any change when I pull #4 and #5 wires off. I guess I could put the IR temp gun away and then things would be back to normal LOL Cheers and thanks |
Did you test compression on 4,5,6 and compare to 1,2,3? That would be a great place to start.
The squirty thing is likely your accelerator pump adding fuel. Doug |
you can check if one cam is 180 out...watch the cam lobes and as e.g. #4 comes to tdc after the intake valve closes...go look to see that the roter is pointing to the #4 sp wire position
