Help - Cylinder Head Identification

I am trying to identify a a variety of different heads for model type and year (ie P/N).

Is there some way to link the casting number cast into the head to the year and model of the head? I have the Porsche PET that allows me to link P/N to the year/model. Can I do this without having to measure the ports and valve sizes on each head?

Can anyone help or is it necessary to measure ports and valves?

The casting marks will tell you very little about the identity of the head.
There is generally a date cast into the head so that can help identify the year. Remember that the model year changes in the middle.

Measuring port size, valve size and date stamp will tell you almost everything you need to know.

Thank you Henry...I'll look for the date stamp.

My 79SC large port heads have 77 casting dates on them so...

Left over inventory or assembly mishap explains 77 date on 79 heads. It is also possible that your engine is actually a 78.

The casting date is the date the head was cast no the model year.
