Optimal fan/alternator RPM ?

I was looking over the various pulleys and I was wondering what the optimal fan RPM is, for both the 226mm and 245mm housings? For a race motor that will be in the 6.5-8k range all the time.

Scott,

On a cool, foggy day at Laguna Seca, there isn’t an issue. On a typical nice cool day at Willow Springs, say only 103F, you can’t turn the fan fast enough.:D

Since both SCCA and PCA (and most everyone follows those rules to a degree) allow water squirters, the “Rubbermaid Solution”is an inexpensive and very effective solution. For my son’s track car (GT2 914-6) I’m integrating it into the cool suit system. No sense letting the competitors in on the secret.

To answer your question, I carry the several pulleys, fans & run-in belts and use the combination suitable for the conditions. Think of it as “carb jets for the engine cooling.” :D

Best,
Grady :)
