Break in on new rebuild ??

Anyone got any suggestions on a suitable break in period for the new rebuild? 3.0 CIS, turbo. I'm taking it to the track next weekend, and I'd like to run it in a bit before that.

I put in 993 head studs, the black all threaded ones. Do they need to be retorqued? I was going to readjust the valves later this week, and that would obviously be a good time for it.

Thanks!
Pat

Wayne and every one else says drive it like you stole it... ( fast idle 20 min at 2000 rpm ) in other words if you idle it it will destroy cams ( in a hurry ) and next the ring seating maybe compromised.
After a in depth study you will agree with this,, if you have any issues..or call doc Phil

That's how I usually break engines in. Just thought I'd ask to see how everyone else does it. I just took it for a ride, and got home and dropped the idle down to 1000 RPM; it was real fast idle before that.
Thanks!

I let my type 4's run for an hour, change the oil, run for a few minutes more here and there, and take it to the track and beat the hell out of it. Mine last as long as anyone else's (not too long, I'm racing with a VW van engine!) and longer than some people's.
My father has built hundreds of engines, and the best one he ever had was driven easy for 20 miles and then he wrung it's neck for the rest of it's life.
