questions re: crankshaft inspection
 

I am having my cranks inspected locally and polished (if in STD spec), but want to give them detailed instruction regarding any nuances. The cranks are 2.4/2.7. I need some clarification of what I've found in the Technical Spec book and Wayne's book.

1) which bearing is #1--is it the main bearing closest to the flywheel end?--I think it would have to be since #8 is the nose (d3) (runout specifies that runout should be measured at #4 and #8 with #1 and #7 on V-blocks)

2) taper is < 0.025mm
3) round is < 0.15mm
4) is there a spec for measuring barrel?

5) as long as the journal remains above the wear limit then it's still considered STD even though its not within the STD tolerance, or does the journal still have to be ground down to the next size?

6) is measuring the timing gear seat necessary? I wasn't going to bother even though the distributor drive gear will be removed.

I am also having the #8 bearing measured. Is there any other specs for this bearing (like taper, e.g.)?

Finally, what is done to balance a crankshaft? What is the spec?

I plan on having the crank magnafluxed and micropolished if within STD spec. It would appear that the micropolish spec is 2 microns, and should affect the diameter. Do they typically recheck the dimensions again after micropolishing?

I will also have them swap out the dizzy drive gear for an SC drive gear for my Supertec twin plug SC distributor.
