Garage
I can recommend Tab Tanner, owner of Autobahn Garage in Findlay, OH. He just worked on my car and he is a great Porsche mechanic and very reasonable. He's a bit of a drive from you, but he's worth it!

the $7k may not be unreasonable..it all depends on what will be replaced while going in and redoing the valve/valve guides. There are people on this forum that know 1000 x more than myself. I did my own top end rebuild and spent about $6k, but I replaced just about as many things possible.... clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing, throughout bearing, upgrade clutch arm pivot, cam chains, cam sprockets, ramps, refurb pistons and cylinders, all new engine sensors, not to mention serti cut the valve seats, new valve guides, new valve springs, refurb rockers and shafts, touch up cam, new engine tin seal, powder coat engine tin, bead blast and clear coat fan and fan housing and AC pump mounts... and I'm forgetting so many items...oh forgot.. rotor, cap, plugs, belts, all sorts of gaskets.. I guess it depends if your going to just go in and fix one particular item to just get by for now, maybe everything else is fine

I forgot... replace all head studs with steels, trans oil, 4 changes of engine oil, filters, all sorts of special goop for gaskets/etc., JB weld, a few special tools, flywheel bolts, a new large tool chest...because I was tired of working out of a pile of tools, boxes, rags, zip lock bags, endless paper towels, bags of special hardware for engine tin, front engine seal, rear engine seal, made custom spacers for cam sprocket arms, end less hours of cleaning parts and threads

you see all of this stuff adds up and the mechanic has to buy much of the same stuff... so that's why when you get a complete high quality job it costs a lot of money... remember the mechanic has to add for profit and allowance for come backs otherwise he will not stay in business

Porsche Crest

Thanks for you earlier suggestions / info. However I would like to get a second opinion on the work that needs to be done regardless. Does anyone know of a shop in the Allentown, Pa. area? Or eastern PA / western NJ area NEED A TOP END REBUILD OR AT THE VERY LEAST A HEAD / STUD JOB ON MY 1987 930 TURBO?
