Question 2.7 CIS rebuild 964 cams and higher comp pistons

I’m rebuilding my 1974 2.7 engine and I read a technical article here named Extracting Power from CIS 911s, I liked the idea so I’m planning on installing 964 cams with power steering pump drive ground off as it says there, I also want to install higher compression pistons but keeping CIS, I see that here on Pelican Parts the only option I have is a Mahle Piston and Cylinder set with 9.2:1 comp but it is 2.9 L (93mm) and I also read here that they are not recommended.
My questions are:

Where can I get a set of 2.7L for CIS with a higher than stock CR?

Do I have to make any other modifications to the engine in order for these upgrades to work properly?

What are the pros and cons of doing the modification?

I have searched the forum for info on replacing the cams on a 2.7 engine with the 964 cams and found nothing so please if someone has any advice… Please confirm if its even possible.

Thank you

Carl: You can have your stock cams reground to 964 spec OR buy a pair from me! I had ElGINS do the work. I was going to go the path you are contemplating but decided to go another route. Removing the cams will require dropping the motor, pulling off the chain tensioners, yanking the cam sprockets, pulling off the rocker arms and then pulling out the cams. Install is reverse of this but you will need to retime the cams. That's about it...not sure if mods are needed for the CIS..you may just need to enrichen it a bit.

If you want alot more performance, get some J&E pistons at around 9.5:1 CR, and E cam and webers (aka Bruce Anderson motor). Of course, you loose the stock look here.

Let me know if you are interested in the cams. I will sell them for the cost of the ELGIN's 964 regrind.

Thanks for the offer but I already bought the cams they are 964 original cams, got them used on eBay, my engine is already down for rebuilding that’s why I decided to do these modifications, and yes I would like to keep the stock look on the motor.
Do you think those J&E pistons would work with CIS?

Yeah...the J&E should work fine with the CIS and 964 cams and I see no issue with the higher CR. You should use J&E with MAHLE cylinders. Make sure you check valve/pistons clearances.
