Vacuum hose and Weber carbs

I have 46 Webers on my 2.8. I currently have no vacuum hose from my distributor to my carbs intake manifold. Do I need it or can I leave it as is. if so, then wouldnt my advance not work? Very confused.

my understanding is that the vacuum is for retarding only, not advancing.

best way to check would be with a timing light. lets say 6 deg btdc at idle and 36 deg btdc at 6000. plenty of info on this in the tech forum, just use the search option.
