930 Turbo Cylinder Head torque value
 

I am about to put the heads back on my 1985 930 Turbo. I have used ARP studs and I wanted to know what torque setting to use.

Any advice would be gratefully received...

HI or 40 Nm , which ever comes first. SmileWavy

The torque value is actually, slightly different with types of lubes used but, 29 ft lbs with the arp lub will do just fine.

HI Steve you did put the cam box on to the heads when you torqued them down , didn't you , just to line things up before you seal and fit the cam box fully.

Most of the builders I know torque the heads to the cam box first, then torque the whole assembly to the engine. I used to torque the heads separately, with the cam box loosely in place, the way you describe, but have since changed over to the other method with good results. Of course it's necessary to have the head torque proper, which may be more purely achieved by torquing the heads on independently. But it's also necessary to have a good seal between the cam box and heads, and to have good alignment of the cam bearings so the cam doesn't bind -- which is (arguably) better achieved using the method I described. Either way should work okay if you are watching what you're doing.

ARP head studs
 

If you are using the ARP kit they use a torque of 42 ft. lbs with oil or 36 ft. lbs with moly. that is whats on their 911 stud kit package.
