Official sponsers of cup racers
JE pistons and Carrillo rods are now the official sponsors of all cup racers.
Just sat thru a presentation by JE Pistons. Very very informative. The pistons are getting very light and the wrist pins are getting very very small, like less than 3/4 of an inch and that’s in big big power per cylinder engines. (over 125hp per cylinder). The pistons are basically just ring lands, almost no skirt. Gas jets to keep the very very small ).8mm wide rings in contact with the cylinder. Wrist pins that are 1/2 the diameter of present day wrist pins, no bushings, just coatings to make them work. they do special machining to their pistons to match the cylinder head, to achieve maximum compression ratios. Clearly not for street applications. They did talk a little about connecting rods. Carrillo rods have a significant advantage in metallurgy over all others. No voids, occlusions due to the double vacuum process and ultra attention to metallurgy. They said that they could clearly see the difference between Carrillo rods and any competitor under the microscope. The guy stated that there is no comparison of any other rod to Carrillo. And they have no interest in rods, period. I did bring up the competing rods, but they said, that there is nothing in the same league with Carrillo. They stated others had much better turn around times, but to quality, its Carrillo. They also said that they wished the same was true with pistons. But that the piston world was much more competative. Last edited by snowman; 11-16-2006 at 09:09 PM.. |
