I've seen this issue in a number of treads ... but I have not seen a conclusive solution or reason for it. Could it be blow by? There must be some tired engines out there. Do they exhibit this nasty habit? Too much oil in the tank? Or is it a mystery for me to solve?

over filled or pressurized from blowby past the rings. a hole in a piston would do it too.

Thanks for the suggestions ... its not a hole but could very well be blow by. The engine runs reasonably well, starts well and is very responsive. I'll check the compresion and if its still ok I'll reduce the oil tank level in incremnets .... eventually I know it'll stop

Do you have a catch can or is oil just coming out of the factory breather line into the air filter housing?
Could be just normal (high) oil level in the oil tank. Your idea of lowering the level is valid, but first confirm engine integrity with a compression test. Sherwood |

I don't have a catch can, I don't have a factory breather either. The 'custom' filter is fitted to the hose connection on the oil filler spout. The idea of a catch can is interesting .... implying some overflow would go in this 'can'? ... When I bought the car there was nothing there ... not even a filter.

There have been several threads on this subject. High rpm operation will create more blowby pressure in the crankcase. Oil mist and unburned hydrocarbon want to exit. A catch can is a good place to separate liquid from air, but this system needs large passages and volume to decrease air velocity.

Reduce your foaming
Reduce the foaming in the tank and it will reduce the oil coming out of the breather. Dempsey touched on this in his book and it worked for me plus increased my oil pressure and decreased temperature.
The first pictures show where the nuts are located and the third photo shows the difference between the two. The part number is 901.105.361.01. the part cost about 5 dollars each.. ![]() ![]() ![]() Have fun
