Hi guys,
How do I know which engine cases are aluminum in the early cases (1965 to 1969)? I am looking for a rebuildable aluminum motor. Thanks you and porsche on. Warner ![]() |

I'm sure someone can chime in here with case numbers, but you can tell easily by color. Once you've seen them both you can't miss it. Aluminum is a lighter silver color, magnesium is a dark grey.

I think all of the 68's and 69's are mag..
so your search is going to be more on the 65-67 cases.

Hi,
Dempsey in his book suggested that the change was 1/2 way through 1968? Is there somewhere that I can find case numbers? Thanks, Porsche on!!!! Warner |

alum I.D.
The easiest way is to look at the engine on the bottom around the sump cover, the alum. cases have fins running almost the length of the case.
