Question Aluminum motor cases

Hi guys,

How do I know which engine cases are aluminum in the early cases (1965 to 1969)?

I am looking for a rebuildable aluminum motor.

Thanks you and porsche on.

I'm sure someone can chime in here with case numbers, but you can tell easily by color. Once you've seen them both you can't miss it. Aluminum is a lighter silver color, magnesium is a dark grey.

I think all of the 68's and 69's are mag..

so your search is going to be more on the 65-67 cases.

Hi,

Dempsey in his book suggested that the change was 1/2 way through 1968? Is there somewhere that I can find case numbers?

Thanks,

alum I.D.

The easiest way is to look at the engine on the bottom around the sump cover, the alum. cases have fins running almost the length of the case.
