Cylinder Identification....different way?
 

I was putting together a shopping list and the JE pistons are really interesting...

So I need to know what type of cylinders I have. I jacked up the car and took a look see.

And here is what I saw. Each cylinder had a number 1 with a triangle next to it with what appeared to be a 6 or an 8 inside the triangle.

Does this identify the cylinder type?

Is there a way to tell with out taking the motor apart?

It is very difficult to tell the difference between Alusil, Silimal and Nikasil.

The one on the cylinder is the diameter group (0,1,2,3) and the number in the triangle is either a 5 or a 6 and that number is the height group. All 2.7 cylinder types use these numbers.

If you can see a rib running from top to bottom across the fins that cylinder would be a Kolbenschmidt Alusil cylinder.

Does anyone know if these are Alusil Cylinders? I am also in a similiar boat. It appears that there is a rib accross the cylinders in the first picture.

Someone had mentioned also that one of the cylinder types was a flatter outside finish than the other.

I was prepared for them to be alusil, but found out they were Nikasil/mahle cylinders when I took the motor apart.

Good for me!

you are really not going to know until you disassemble the motor. So do like I did and prepare for the worst case and hope for the best...
