weber carbs ? is it worth it?

OK so I bought a nice clean set of Weber's a year and change ago, they are the rare IDS type and I currently have them up for sale for what I got in them......NOT allot of action or action below what I paid by 5-800$......

The shafts are my ? when held up to a light I can see gaps around the butterfly plates...that is not good right ???

also I have about 10 thou of play up and down (pushing up and down) not good right ???

I believe my only option here is a rebuild by eurometrix.....I mean hell if I rebuild em for $800 I have a virtually new set of carbs right ???

MATH = 550 loss over what I paid + the difference of +2000 for NEW PMO's = 2550 to change out carbs

OR 800(+)- to rebuild

Will these carbs work well on a 2.7 with 9.8 comp and HPX ign or are the PMO's the ONLY way to go???

Long winded I know apologize...I just want some feel good here for my 40 yr old carb choice.

Thanks

Josh

I guess your looking into the throat of the carb? seeing a little crescent of light isnt a problem, nor is it a sign of worn shafts.

To check the shafts for wear, grab the shaft by the bell crank end and try to wiggle it.

It should wiggle imperceptibly. If the shaft wiggles easily, and you can actually see movement the shafts are worn.

On a running engine just hit the shafts with some carb cleaner,, if the revs change =worn shafts.

PMOs are not the only way to go. I know of someone who went back to Webers from PMOs in a racecar environment.

That said, if the shafts arent worn, those carbs would work fine in the application you mentioned.

On a dial gauge the shafts will move up and down by 10 or I believe that is 10 thousandths...you can see it move....but webers are good so they'll have to do I guess...certainly save a ton of $

If your using the Webers in a race application then worn shafts aren't as much of an issue as they are if your using them for the street.

Why did they go back to Webers from PMO? I'm debating about going to PMO's from 46mm Webers based on the fact that certain parts are nla.
