3.0sc compression bump?

I am going to be replacing lower head studs and was wondering if a meaningful compression bump can be attained by cutting heads or cylinders during this work.

Thanks

You don't say what year your SC motor is. If it is one of the early ones with 8.6 or so, you can put in later pistons (9.3) or, even better, later Euro pistons (9.8). If it is carbureted, you could try J&E pistons, and have them cut to about any compression ratio you might think of, though I can't see going above 9.8 unless you are going to twin plug or run race gas only. But Porsche seems to have done its CR adjusting with the pistons. That also leaves the rest of the geometry (chain system, engine shroud, intake system) dimensions where they were.

The engine builders on this list would have to tell you if you can get anything worth the trying by lowering the head (a thinner base gasket under the cylinders would be the simplest way to do a little of that) without reducing clearances below the safe point.

I have an early engine, but don't want to replace pistons, etc. I was just curious about other methods, but since no response here, I guess it is a non-starter. If my engine needs more than I think, I may go the extra mile and install the JEs.

Thanks

Art,
Just outta curiosity: where are you having this work done?

In my basement. Actually haven't gotten too far yet. Just got the 46mm crowfoot cam socket and can't budge the nut. I've heard people say to use an impact wrench, but that seems dangerous.

Use the impact!
