Installed the MSD's and coils and related wiring for my twin plug upgrade. Trying to be ready for testing at Willow Springs on the 13th of Dec. Subscribing - because I may be twin-plugging my engine soon, and know next to nothing about it.

Can you post some details about the distributor? What type is it?

Why twin MSD boxes and coils? Is this a common set up?

I'm also going to be following this one. Do you have a thread on the building of this car? Have you re-routed the fuel lines from the tank?

More pictures of the bare engine compartment would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry no thread on the build up of this car. It has been abn ongoing process for 8 years.
The fuel lines to go back to the tank, thats how the PMO fuel regulator likes it.

You have to use seperate CDI and coils in order to twin-plug. One for the top plug and one for the bottom plug.

If you only used one CDI/MSD and one coil and then tried to send the charge to both top and bottom plugs what would happen is only one plug would fire because the high tension charge would chose the path of least resistance and go that route to discharge leaving the other plug with no charge.

This is not unlike a lightning bolt that chooses the shortest path to earth like a tree or building and discharges. You need two lightning bolts to hit two targets.

There are people who will argue one way or the other on this but some folks are firing 2 coils with a single MSD box. I have no direct experience doing that but I have read a few post from people here who are doing it.

Holley Blue pump, up front. Remember this is already a "sorted" race car. The only improvements this time are twin plugs and GE80 cam up from a GE60.

I've heard the same too. You can drive a twin plug engine with a single MSD/Crane ignition unit driving two coils.

Good point. I erroneously grouped the MSD in with the coils in my post when I should have only said that seperate coils must be used.

Well, ready to put in the car. Thanks to the guys and gals @ JB Racing! The customer service was excellent. I like how they advised me to use 2 colors of wires, black for bottom and red for the top plugs. Mark. Looks great. However, You need to replace the Engine support bracket. Not only can I see the weld repair you did not even try to paint it to cover it up. What happened to your attention to detail? LOL..

great job on the motor.

It just needs to be re powder coated, I went too radical on the lightening and had to repair it by adding gussets.
If all goes smoothly I should be driving it around the neighborhood tomorrow or Sunday.

That sure is a purdy motor! I really like the idea of color coding the plug wires.
