Thanks to all that responded and support. a combination of all your ideas worked well ! Found out why so difficult to split. Well, pictures say it all............

Yikes, spun a rod bearing then? (Can't quite tell if it's spun or just got hammered from the pics).

Did you suspect something, hence the teardown, or were you in there for another reason?
