If U pulled your Motronic intake manifold..
...and didn't fing any apparent gasket damage, would U replace the gaskets or apply a little permatex and be done with it? The engine is in the car. these gaskets are a major PITA!
Reason for pulling intake was twofold... binding on the throttle bellcrank that sits on top of the motor under the intake and secondly, hoping for a sucked in gasket. tia. |
I would put new ones on. They are cheap and you have done all the hard work. Also use a 320 grit or finer sandpaper and sand the insulators flat. Did all the above during my rebuild. JMHO

the sucked gaskets are usually the bottom ones, under the phenolic spacer.

John,
That's where i am...the gaskets that lie atop the heads, intake is off. They look fine, no gasket material anywhere it shouldn't be but i figured to go ahead and replace them...until i started removing them. cyl 1 has been such a pain i don't even want to think about cyl's 3&6. It would probably be easier to just drop the motor. Michael, brother, taking the intake off was cake...cleaning off 21yo gasket around the studs w/o maring the head surface is the hard part. i picked up some Permatex gasket remover but before i start spraying & scraping i thought i'd ask the collective about resealing the head side with some kind of liquid gasket sealer. |
