[OIL] lubricating after oil change, prior to start up

Hi,

I did a search of the forums, but didn't find this discussed, which surprises me, and may exhibit a lack of my searching skills.

Also, while this isn't strictly an engine rebulid related question, (moderator feel free to move this post), there is enough collective wisdom in this forum to make it worth a try.

Question: during an oil change on a 993NA, I drain oil from the tank and the case, and a decent amount of oil also comes out of the oil return line that I remove as per the DIY on p-car to gain access to the engine oil filter. Since the motor is dry-sump, immediately after refilling the oil tank it seems to me that hardly any oil will be in the case. How do I properly get oil into the case before firing the motor up? I thought about pulling the fuel pump fuse and cranking the car a few times for maybe 5 seconds, based on the reasoning that the oil pump is driven off the crank and that turning the car over would cause oil to be pumped into the case.

Have others done this? Do you take any additional precautions such as disconnecting the distributors?

Thanks in advance

/alex

Alex,

The pump takes oil out of the case and puts it into the tank. Oil for the pressure side is drawn from the tank, not from the case... Therefore there is no reason to try and get some in there..
