My 2.5 Motor All Pretty

At long last, my motor is more or less done. I thought I'd show it off, and also thank all of you for the help I so desperately needed. I couldn't have done it without this board, several thoughtful and generous and highly skilled members of the Porsche community, and Wayne's book. Here are some brief specs: Short stroke 2.5, late 7R case, '70 spec E cams, JE pistons with reconditioned cylinders, CR measured @ 9.7:1, S spec head ports, Eurometrix rebuilt throttle bodies enlarged to S spec, mag stacks enlarged to '69 S spec, SC oil pump.

The car is not ready for the motor, so it will be a while before I can report on the function of the thing. Thanks, again, to all of you who answered my questions, scrounged around for parts, and shared their own successes and failures for the benefit of the rest of us.

Very nice Scott! How did you treat your fan and housing?

Scott Clarke 12-04-2006 08:40 AM

Jon-
The fan and housing are powder coated a color that was called "light bronze." It has a pebbled finish. I thought that it would look nice, and realized when the motor was together that it matches the color of freshly bead blasted magnesium almost perfectly. My fan and housing were badly pitted, so the pebble finish was great for hiding less than perfect parts.

A beautiful job done Scott. Keep us posted.

Thanks Scott. Very nice.

Is this with 2.7 cylinders and early crank?

I think the E cams will be great on the street ( I have E's in my 2.7MFI). The S surely sound sweet and would wind out that short stroke nicely but would be soft on the street.

I forgot to add: WOW it looks great, tempts me to swap the factory cleaner.

Thanks to all for the kind words.

Luke-
Yes, I should have mentioned that it is the 66mm crank from my '70E donor motor, which is where most of the parts came from. I'm glad to hear that your E cams work well in your 2.7. I did the ports so that in the future, if I decide I need to, I can change cams without removing the heads again, and have ports well matched to displacement and cams.

Scott,

Damn fine work! That is a peice of art. Now it needs to be broken in. As your car is not ready, I'd be happy to volunteer to put it in one of mine and get it ready for you:D .

Hey Scott- nice! Take another pic of your fan - it looks a LOT nicer than the one above shows.

It would be a shame to use that motor to drive with and get it all dirty...
