High performance Clutch/pressure plate?
I am in the market for a clutch/pressure plate package for a
901 push syle transaxle. i have used centerforce in the past, but I am looking for more options. |
If you had to choose between
Sport round spring disc or Sport solid puck disc what would you choose? |

So tim is this a bolt on deal for a 901 Gear Box?

Yes bolt on, just specify whether a 6, or 9 bolt crank..
also no slipping the clutch, you will now be pushing or winching your car on the trailer also |

Well you could drive it into the trailer if your able to to so without slipping the clutch.
These type clutches are like on/off switches. Basically you dump it and go. |

Mark, we have used these setups in many race 911/914's with the 901 box its a bolt up using the cable, you have to be sure to set the pedal travel with a positive stop so you do not over stroke the pressure plate. How is your 12 pin distributor working ?

I have the tilton brand clutch that is somewhat similar to this.
These clutches are race only. you often get the car going by reving it up and dumping the clutch. there is nothing gentle about these clutches they are best used in race cars where the majority of the shifting will occur on the track. literally an on and off switch expect to kill the car half of the time you are starting from a stop! (especially if your first gear ratio is an "F" like mine) brant |

The greater the # of discs the greater the torque the clutch can hold. A single disc can hold 250 #/ft of torque, 2 disc = 550 #/ft, 3disc= 800, 4 disc= 1050.... so a single disc would work fine for a smal displacment engine, but you would want to have a buffer or factor of safety, so a 2 disc is typically used. |
also, the advantage is that the disk and friction surface is only 5.5 inches in diamater.
its much easier to spin a 5inch flywheel than a 14inch flywheel its an extreme version of lightening. but you won't be driving the car onto the trailer or slipping the clutch that would be a sure way to create a burned out clutch in no time. the car is either full rolling or full stopped... doubt you could put it onto the trailer comfortably under its own power at 15mph.... thus we push our car by hand and others winch them on. brant |
