Starter ring removal

I'm in the middle of an engine rebuild on my 1973 911T(MFI), and am currently working on the clutch. Can anyone tell me what the easiest way is to remove the starter ring from the clutch assembly? Am I missing something obvious? Any suggestion would be much appreciated.

Stephanie

P.S. I do have Wayne's 101 Projects and I haven't found anything there that helps.

Well, when you remove the 9 8mm Allen head bolts that hold the pressure plate to the flyheel, the assembly falls off, starter ring gear included. At that point my ring gears just fall off of their own accord. But if yours is still tight, you might hit it with some penetrating oil, and smack it off with a plastic or brass hammer.

If your pressure plate has an iron outer ring, perhaps the gear is held on some by rust. But nothing separate fastens it on. Which is why no book talks about how to remove it.

Like Walt says, give it a smack with a plastic/rubber hammer and it will come loose.

Cheers
