When you said "Race motor", my first question is where? If you want to race, you had better read the rules first regarding what is allowed before you start building anything.
If you're talking about a rev-happy motor for DE'ing, then you're asking the right set of questions. But if you're talking about racing, there will be no end to the pain and suffering if you show up to race somewhere, only to discover that the car isn't legal. |
I think if I were to race the car, it would be with NASA, do the dyno/weight thing. No way I could do PCA as much a bastard my car is.

Engine update....
Since this started, I aquired a parts car with a hot 3.0 in it. Got the weber 46's and a euro sc dizzy now. I'll be diving in further to the new motor to check pistons, cylinders, and cams, see what else it has for me. Might be able to swap long blocks if good, or use the two 3.0's to make one hot rod, one stock. More info to come. |

Too Good! |
Installed the dizzy in my car yesterday, checked the timing, 35 degree advance somewhere around 3-4k (hard to see timing light at tach at same time), sounded pretty good.

3.0 base motor
Jenvey taper bore throttles Autronic EFI 993 twin plug dizzy DR camshafts JE pistons 100mm bore LN nickies 100mm bore DR springs and retainers stock 3.0 heads stock rods stock pump solid tensioners gt2 evo chains twin plug bosch ms injectors pump gas arp rod bolts and headstuds got 298.5 rwhp at 6500rpm and a tad over 200hp The run was cut short but the cams make power to 8500rpm. It is quite the tq monster. If I were to do it again though I would have sold the 78 sc base motor and started with a 3.2 just for the larger stock heads. The engine is slated to be changed again within two years depending on the mileage it racks up. Changes are bigger heads, custom rods, custom pistons, modded crank, bigger oil pump, coil on plug, no dizzy, different cams, different valves and some other little touches here and there. There are so many engine combos you can build, you can build to a class, a budget or to a hp output. Remember though, have tons of fun, to it once and do it right. |
