Transmission Removal Procedure
 

Help!

Does anyone have a step by step procedure for removing the transmission from my 1983 911SC? I removed the engine per Wayne's procedure (this leaves the trans. in the car).

I've rec'd. many comments that it is easier to mate the engine to the trans. prior to the reinstall. This was my 1st engine drop and Wayne's procedure was a lifesaver! Does anyone have a similiar procedure or step by step instructions for removing the transmission from my car? I'm concerned I will mess something up if I don't have this.

If you are just removing the transmission to make it easier to install you engine I don't think it's worth it. If you removed the engine with the tranny in the car then you can put it back the same way.

If you want to remove the tranny you need to put a jack under it and disconnect every thing. Then pull it out straight back and down. You need to disconnect the following: Axles, shift linkage (should be done already from your engine drop), reverse light switch, speedometer wire, starter wires, ground strap, throttle linkage, clutch cable. I think this is about it.

Just work carefully and you'll see if there is anything else connected as you remove the tranny.

if you have a decent jack that the engine won't fall off of when it's angled back, it's easier to leave the trans in. you just look through the hole in the bellhousing to be sure the fork engages the throwout bearing. mirror and flashlight. hopefully you disconnected the shift coupler already.
