3.2 Engine parts inspection
I have a whole load of 3.2 Carrera engine parts I am thinking about selling as mentioned in another thread.
But before I sell them, I want to make sure they are good. Can anyone tell me what to look for or check in the following parts... 3.2 Carrera cylinder heads 3.2 Carrera con rods 3.2 Carrera camshafts 3.2 Carrera cam carriers 3.2 Pistons and barrells I want to put them on ebay, but not sure if to describe them as good unless I know what to check on them. |

Do you have tools to perform the measurements?
The guys can help you with measuring the PNCs Heads are new or cores that require a machine shop rebuild them. But you could ascertain if they are good for personal use since you already have them. The rods need to be rebuilt. The camshafts may be good, they just have to be signed off on. Good ones are not marred, scratched, or pitted. The carrier may be good. Sounds like good parts removed by someone and upgraded parts installed (except for the carriers-not sure why those weren't resused). Regards,

From what I can tell, The previous owner of a 911 SC I own bought an entire used 3.2 engine to install into his SC, but then decided to stripdown and freshen up the engine so it was "as new" when he installed it.
Not sure what happened next, but it seems he lost interest in it, sold the crankcase, not sure what happened to the crank (its now rumoured from the local club members that he sent the crank to be reground and the place made a mess of it) So I think all the parts are ok. I have dial calipers, micrometers and things like that (bought a lathe a few years ago, bought lots of engineering things, now all gathering dust) How are the rods rebuilt? |
