How to remove clutch/pulley from York AC compressor?
I'm rebuilding my '82SC engine. Right now, the engine is apart and I'm going thru all the parts cleaning and sand/bead blasting away. I'd like to take the clutch off of the AC unit (York) so I can better clean all the crevices around it and bead blast the outside.
I was able to remove the bolt that appears to fasten the outer clutch plate, but the plate doesn't budge with the bolt removed and there isn't really any where to get a grip on it. Has anyone had the clutch off their York compressor? Thanks. Geoff |
I did this last summer to replace the shaft seal, you need a wide three jaw puller, or better yet borrow an AC clutch puller from your local Checker.

Does the pully come off with the outer clutch plate or do they come off separately?
Thanks. |

It has been a while, but if my memory serves me correctly, when you take out the bolt that holds the clutch to the compressor, there are a larger set of threads in the clutch for a removal tool to be threaded into. York used 2 different bolts for clutch removal.
They were 5/8- 11 thread and 5/8- 18 thread. I don't know what one fits your application. Hope this helps. |
